ABOUT THE WORK
Autumn Falls captures some of the colours that autumn has to offer on the River Conway, just around the corner from Betws-y-Coed in Snowdonia.
I spent an exciting morning making my way down the ravine in search of waterfalls and sweet spots that I could potentially paint. I find spending time near water, especially if it is fast flowing, to be a deeply re-energising experience.
What Was It Like To Paint?
This was quite an easy painting to do, I think because of its size and because it didn't incorporate any of my more recent 'Flow' style.
I also really enjoyed creating the details of the rocks, especially the moss.
How Does It Feel?
I've had this painting for a while now and I've become quite fond of it. It seems quite happy to sit anywhere, perhaps because it's portrait in orientation?
Either way, I'll be sad to see it go someday as the autumn colours are warm and there's an intimacy to it that I think comes from the feeling of enclosure.
